Which is the best vitamin / supplement for vegans?
I need a multi-vitamin that covers everything that a vegan needs such as lots of Vitamin B12, omega-3, calcium, iron, etc, while being a vegan vitamin itself. Please let me know which is the best + cheapest, and not hard to get (such as through the internet or at Whole Foods).
The best source of Omega 3′s I know of is http://www.bargainfishoil.com
I worked great for my dad.
Hope that helps,
Josh K.
I take Schiff’s Vegetarian Multiple. It’s formulated for vegetarians, made without any animal by-products (duh!) and available at most places that sell other types of Schiff vitamins. (I get them at Fred Meyer, but I don’t know if they even have stores outside Washington and Oregon.) Try googling Schiff and see if you can order directly off the internet if you can’t find it.
It doesn’t have Omega-3 but you can get that by adding flax seed to your diet. I also take 30mg of zinc.
regardless of what people think, we are not carnivores bit omnivores, our digest systems were originally designed to only process fruit and veg however we have evolved over thousands of years to also be able to digest and utilise small amounts of protein.
The best multivitamin and mineral supplement for vegans is one specifically designed for their needs. you should be able to find one easily at your local mall, supermarket, health food shop or by searching on line at google etc
hope this helps
Steak, Pork and Chicken works the best, since humans are by their very nature carnivores.
I am taking Deva multivitamin, got thru internet. It is containing most of the vitamins/minerals to meet the daily requirements. For omega-3, you can take flax seed oil/tablets, but make sure that there is no gelatin/animal derived thing in the tablet
My wife suggested that you look in the August addition of O Magazine. They discussed it in the Health and Beauty questions.
Any vitamin that has everything you need. Make sure it has 28 mg iron, ’cause you don’t eat my favorite, meat.
Not sure if any multivitamins have omega-3. There are flax seed cereals where you can get omega-3. Try a children’s multivitamin…seriously. Just get one with iron.
If you are eating a well balanced diet, you really don’t need supplementation via vitamins.
You can get plenty of calcium from green leafy vegetables and legumes.
Same for iron.
B12 can be found in fortified Soymilk, cereals, and mock meats
Omega 3 and 6 oils are regularly found in seeds & nuts.
Make sure you are eating enough of these, and you will be just fine! : )
