need help (Nutrition Hw) 10 points who can answer this question?
Perunia is 25 years old and considers herself health-conscious. Each day, she eats a fortified low-fat breakfast cereal; enjoys an energy bar for a snack (such as Clif- contains nuts, fruits and is fortified with a full suite of vitamins and minerals); eats plenty of prepared "health foods" such as "Lean Cuisine" and "Healthy Choise" frozen prepared meals, and drinks vitamin water when she works out. She does not enjoy cooking and assumes that the frozen prepared meals she eats have less fat than anything she could cook at home. She rarely snacks on fresh fruits, vegetables or nuts. She also takes a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement that provides 100% or more of the RDA for many of the nutrients.
What do you think about her practices; do you see any potential problems with the choices she makes? do you think she’s getting enough vitamins and minerals? do you think she’s getting enough phytochemicals? would you recommend to petunia that she continues her current practices, or would you recommend some specific changes- if you would recommend specific changes, please explain what they are.
Well thats great that Perunia is getting her full dose of RDA’s through vitamins but not really.
She should be getting her full dose through a balanced diet that also allows her body to absorb different amino acids-something that no vitamin supplement can do.
Perunia should skip the processed food diet as most of these foods are rich in sodium. Some are also high in fat and cholesterol. Plus, most frozen meals lose a great deal of their overall nutritional value when made. On the other hand, home cooked meals are fresh and can be very nutrious.
Perunia should also pick up a piece of fruit once and while as she could be getting her vitamins from a natural source instead of a vitamin. The fiber these fruits and veggies contain is also highly beneficial to her digestive system.
Perunia should also skip the vitamin water to regular water. Most of these beverages contain high amounts of sugar and over the top of amounts of supplements.
