Can I give my 2 and a half year old both a multivitamin and a vitamin d supplement?
We are trying to protect against the h1n1 virus and other seasonal flues so we did some research and found out that Vitamin D is good for you. We dont get much sun where we live and my daughter doesn’t drink enough milk to get the vitamins from it so I was wondering if it would be safe to give her both her daily multi-vitamin and an extra childrens vitamin d supplement?
No rude comments please!
At the age of 2 1/2 I wouldn’t give my child any type of medication/supplement without approval from his/her pediatrician.
If you are that worried why not get a vaccine? I think that I would call a doctor before giving a child that age vitamins.
Your system doesn’t make vitamin D but you can also get too much and cause problems. I am vitamin D deficient and get prescription supplements weekly but my Dr said only take what she gives me, it’s dangerous to get too much. I would call the pediatrician first and ask before giving Vit.-D supplements. I don’t know what an OD to a child would do but I would check with her pediatrician first. I am a grown woman and my Dr says No extra supplements even though my Vit. D was almost nonexistent. I’ve taken prescription supplements for 16 weeks and it’s still not up to normal yet. My 10 month old grandson got the swine flu, he had it for a week and did just fine. If you follow Doctors orders if your child gets it, she should be fine. My 13 year old granddaughter got it also, she’s fine and her Dad got it, he’s fine. It lasts a week. Plenty of fluids or they dehydrate quickly. The 2 grandkids had it at the same time.
