Antioxidants Become Sunscreen when Used During the Day [DermTV.com Epi #207]

In prior episodes, you’ve heard Dr. Schultz stress the importance of using antioxidants. However, if applied during the day, instead of protecting the skin’s cells from within, they act like sunscreens. In this episode, Dr. Schultz explains why.

    Great video. I would love to know what type of antioxidant I should be using. Can you please offer some suggestions? Are there any good drugstore brands that do a good job?

    Anyone have any examples, etc of antioxidants to use on your face…?? thanks!

  8. amused2deathh says:

    Alternatively, does that mean that, if worn at night, a sunscreen will function as an antioxidant?

    @brazilrebecca you can use organic green tea but the only prob w/ that is it leaves a slight yellow tint on the skin. But lots of natural items contain good antioxidants, so my advise to you is to check at a health food store and ask for a good antiO you can apply to the face.

    very interesting. aren’t there antioxidants though that make your skin more light sensitive which is why you have to apply them at night? Vitamin A, I thought,… (retinol)??

  15. jennyg97 says:

    @nicenilam I wouldn’t apply any until you deliver. Speak with your ob/gyn regarding what is safe to use during pregnancy, they all have different views.

    Is it ok to have products combined, like a moisturizer with sunscreen and antioxidants? Or should they be separate products?

  18. Vincenty90 says:

    @brazilrebecca

    Look for a sunscreen with some :P
    C + E are best imo.

  19. whyteOleander says:

    I dont understand the point of putting on antioxidant on top of sunscreen during the day… if it functions as just another sunscreen, it’s a wasted effort isnt it?
