A multivitamin helps the body to get the proper nutrients. It cannot take the place of a balanced meal.
There are crucial nutrients in every food group. Many studies suggest fruits, vegetables, whole grains; legumes and fish oils help to protect the body against heart disease and cancer.
Plant foods give the combination of vitamins, minerals and complex carbohydrates. They contain antioxidants and they are low in calories and high in fiber. Daily calories should be balanced with physical exercise or other activity.
Be sure to burn as many calories as are taken in to prevent weight gain. Even though an individual is not trying to loose or gain weight, their diet should remain balanced (55-60% carbohydrates, 10-15% protein, and 25-30% fat).
Be sure to complement your diet if it is lacking in antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables.
